Notes for Robert H. LABORDE, SR

ROBERT H. LABORDE, SR.
BY
ROBERT H. LABORDE, JR.

My parents were born and lived for many years in the farming community of
Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana about
1920 where I was born. My father, originally a farmer, had a number of
occupations there, i.e. barber, street car conductor, carpenter,
construction foreman, and small contractor.

When they moved to the Bay Area in Alemada County California, he did some
construction work and built a small motel in San Leandro, California
called "Bob's Motel".

They were very conservative and hard working citizens and, I believe, a
credit to the community.

After my mother died in March 29, 1969, my brother Vernon Laborde moved
to San Leandro with his family and operated the motel with my father.
The motel was sold in 1977 and my father, Vernon and his family returned
to New Orleans. My father passed away there on January 20, 1978 at the
age of 81 years.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
