Notes for Paul Robert LABORDE, SR

PAUL ROBERT LaBORDE
BY
MARIE ELAINE (LaBORDE) CLIFFORD

Paul Robert LaBorde was a farmer and carpenter who died from
complications caused by cancer. He was a Catholic and lived with his
mother until his marriage in 1942. He only went to school for a few
years as did his brothers and sisters. After his father died, his mother
never remarried. She raised 11 children on her own. It was a daily
struggle to survive and all her children worked, even in catching turtles
to sell.

He was the youngest child of Resaire LaBorde who died when he was just a
baby. His brothers and sisters were so much older that most had died by
the time I was old enougn to know. That is why there isn't much
information on them or their families.

Father could not read nor write; but, he helped us kids as long as he
could with school work. He would have us read the problem and then give
us the answer in a riddle. Solve the riddle and you had the answer! He
also taught us to count in French, and thanks to him my older sister and
I can count to infinity (well almost) in French.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
