Notes for Jean Joseph KNOLL, IV

Jean Joseph Knoll Served in the Reserve Corp. Company D,. Louisiana 22nd
Infantry and in the beginning it was virtually impossible to verify which
battles he may have taken part in, however, in Central Louisiana there
was intense fighting in Mansfield. There was also the resistance and
burning of Alexandria, on Friday May 13, 1864, as well as the battle of
Fort DeRussey (near Marksville).

"Private J. Knoll, Serial #45064053, was commanded by Col. Grogan,
surrendered at New Orleans, Louisiana, by General E. K. Smith CSA, to
Major E. R. S. Canby, USA May 26, 1865, and paroled/discharged at
Alexandria, Louisiana June 9, 1865. Roll dated Alexandria, Louisiana
June 9, 1865.

In the 1880 census of Avoyelles, Parish, Louisiana, Marguritte and Joseph
are listed as being 46 years old. Marie at 10 and Edgard as being 8.
they lived in the Mansura area of Louisiana, this is just south of
Marksville.
