Notes for Antoine LABORDE

Antoine LaBorde was baptized November 24, 1796. His Certificate of
Baptism was recorded in Spanish and roughly translated here into
English. He was probably named in honor of "Pere Antoine" (Father
Antonio de Sedella) who officiated over his baptism and who was recogized
as a famous priest in New Orleans and an important man in Louisiana
history. It appears from this certficate that the baptism may have
occurred in New Orleans at the St. Louis Cathedral; but, other sources
indicate that the baptism and confirmation ceremonies were both conducted
on the same day in Avoyelles Parish. The record was placed at St. Louis
Cathederal and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (St. Paul's) in Avoyelles Parish,
Louisiana; because, Bishop Cardenas and Father Sedella were visitng in
Avoyelles and officiated in the ceremonies.

The record of this marriage (between Antoine LaBorde and Emilie Ducote)
states that Antoine LaBorde is a resident of Bayou Rouge and that the
ceremony, August 2, 1830, "blessed" a union established "17-18" years
earlier and that eight children were now legitimate.
