Notes for Moise Telisma LABORDE, JR

MOISE TELISMA LaBORDE, Jr. aka: TELISMA MOISE LaBORDE, Jr.

Moise Telisma LaBorde, Jr. was baptized on October 9, 1920 at St. Paul's
Catholic Church in Mansura, LA. His grave marker in St. Paul's Cemetery
in Mansura, LA cites his name as "MOISE TELISMA LABORDE, Jr. Sept. 25,
1920 - May 12, 1971 - BELOVED OF ELIZABETH". Members of his family
believe that an error was made in recording his name which should have
been listed as Telisma Moise LaBorde.

If Moise LaBorde (1846) was named Moise Telisma LaBorde, I, this would
make Moise Telisma LaBorde, Jr. become Moise Telisma LaBorde, III.

He moved to San Diego, CA in WWII and married Elizabeth Rena Cook and
lived there until his death in 1972.

He served in the U. S. Marines in WWII and his buddies could not easily
pronounce his French name, so they called him Johnny, a nickname he used
during his military career.

An article which appeared in The Marksville Weekly News & The Bunkie
Record in 1991 cites the order of given names for him and his father as
Telisma Moise LaBorde.

"Sgt. Telisma Laborde, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Laborde, Mansura,
husband of Elizabeth Cook, attended Mansura H. S. Entered Marines, 1937,
trained at Camp Elliott, Calif. Served in AP Theater. Awarded AT, AP
with 6 Stars and Phil. Lib. Ribbons. Discharged in 1946."
