Notes for George Cornelius BASS

Died near Corinth, MS. while on active duty with Co. 1, 38th
Mississippi Reg. of Vol., CSA. He had enlisted 3/25/1862 at Columbia, MS
and was in Capt. Foxworth's Company.
Fleeta Estelle Autry had a letter that was sent to Nancy his wife,
from his CO. Commander.
The letter was written with a quill pen, I imagine by lantern, or
candle light.
It said " I seat myself before you tonight to bring you news of
great sorrow. Your husband has ..............etc." . Aut Mama had it in
an old trunk in her bedroom. Louin L. Autry built his home on the old
homestead and may have the letter now. It was beautifully written
concerning his death as a result of wounds, I believe at the Battle of
Corinth.
He was born on Holidays Creek, about 10 miles north of Columbia, MS
and
was as a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
