Notes for Michel MESSIER

David Messier de San Francois married Marguerite Bar de St. Denis,
France. They sent their son, Michel Messier de San Francois (Christened
in 1640 in St. Denis le Thiboult, Normandy, France) to Montreal, Canada,
where he and his future brother-in-law (Jacques LeMoyne) purchased thirty
acres of land along the St. Lawrence River, Montreal, Canada on February
25, 1658. Michel Messier built a farmhouse on his fifteen acres and
Jacques LeMoyne built one exactly like it on his plot. They both built a
fort and lighthouse on the property. This became known as Cap San Michel.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
