Notes for Eliphalet Scott GASKIN
Information acquired from Paul Young has suggested that an omission of
the s from the surname might have been made by this family unit. This
did not appear to be universal as citations in the 1850 Census of
Williamsburg County, SC cited him to be the son of Ezekiel (Scott)
Gaskins (,Jr) and Rebecca (Rebecca D. Eaddy). His siblings cited in
other sources continued to include the s in their surname. See notes for
his father, Ezekiel Scott Gaskins, Jr. in which Census data and Gaskins
Family Bibles are not in complete agreement.
Paul Young provided the following comments:
1. The Orange Hill Cemetery record from Washington County, Florida
(USGenWeb) reflects the death of Eliphlet (typo Bliphlet) Gaskin and his
wife Shelby (Shelby Arminda Spargue) Gaskin.
2. I have a copy of a page from a family Bible which shows the wedding
of J. W. Robertson and V. M. Gaskin (Virginia May Gaskin was the daughter
of Eliphet and Shelby Gaskin). They were married on December 25, 1894 at
Orange Hill, Washington, County, Florida.
3. My Mother remembers her Grandmother's name as being Gaskin.
