Notes for James David HANNA
JAMES DAVID (DAVIS) HANNA
James David Hanna was a farmer throughout his life and retired in his
70's. He lived peaceably with his neighbors, was loved by everyone, and
loved everyone. He truly enjoyed the company of relatives, friends, and
strangers. He had guests in his home almost daily and took great
pleasure in sharing his farm produce with others. He always gave sweet
potatoes, watermelons, cane syrup, meat from his well stocked smokehouse,
garden vegetables for his guests to carry home. His wife was a wonderful
homemaker and seamstress and was a great helper to him.
His children lived in South Carolina with exception of the youngest,
Carlisle, When Carlisle graduated from Free Will Baptist College,
Nashville, Tennessee he married Marie Wright, (a graduate from Free Will
Baptist Bible College) from St. Louis, Missouri. They sailed for North
India in October 1952, as missionaries under the auspices of the Board of
Foreign Missions of Free Will Baptists. They remained in India
thereafter, except for short vacations.
The health of Davis and Lorena had declined in 1964 to the point where
they could no longer live alone. They moved in with their daughter Iris
(Retha Eris) Hanna, and her husband Frank (John Franklin) Eaddy. Lorena
died April 12, 1969 from cancer and Davis was active almost until his
91st birthday. On November 6, 1974 he died. His Christian Testimony was
an inspiration to all.
Davis and Lorena had 26 grandchildren and 30 grandchildren.
