Notes for Thomas CHINNERS


Thomas Chinners was an Indian trader as evidenced in the January 23, 1739
entry in the Journal of the Commons House of Assembly. "Read the
Petition of Thomas Chinner setting forth that he had given credit for
sundry necessaries supplied to the Cherokees. That the said Lacy being
gone, and there being no money in the treasury, he prays relief which was
referred to the Committee on Petitions and Accounts."

Thomas Chinners deceased in 1743 and the appraisal of his estate is in
miscellaneous records, Charleston, S. C. Vol 71 page 299. He had at
least 2 sons, Abraham and Isaac.

He rec'd warrant for 200 acres 24 June 1697 (Warrantrs 1692-1711, edited
by A. S. Salley. Between the years 1704 and 1718 rec'd grant 1233 acres
in Berkley Co. Province of S. C. (original S.C. Grants 1674-1773),
microfilm S. C. Historical Society. From same source Elizabeth rec'd 100
acres 8 July 1704.

Abraham Chinners in Probate Court, Charleston, S. C. in the will of
"Abraham Chinners... only son John Sandiford Chinners... Executors, Isaac
and Benjamin Mazyck dated 3-16-1759..." record book 1757-1760.

Isaac (Chinners) in Craven County, S. C. receives grant 450 acres
9-30-1736 (Original Grants 1674-1773).

In the Journal of the Council of S. C. 5-4-1757 is the following entry:
"Little Pee Dee Company; Isaac Chinners, Captain; John Woodbery, Lt.;
Thomas Chinners, Ensign." It is learned from the 5-20-1757 entry in the
Journal that the Craven County Regiment was commanded by Col. George
Pawley and Captain Chinners Company has a place of rendezvouz on the
south side of Kinlock's Ferry.

Probate Court, Charleston, S. C. Miscellaneous Records, Volume 88-B page
663 is the appraisal of the estate of Isaac Chinners. In Will Book ?,
page 206 is recorded the will of Isaac Chinners (wife, Wineford she was
evidently second wife). Prince Fredericks Parish Register, "Chinners,
Mary, daughter of Isaac Chinners and Rebecca his wife, born 4-28-1737."
