Notes for Benjamin G. F. LAMBERT
The beginning of the Civil war saw B.G.F. Lambert enlisting in the 2nd
Regt. Co. D Reserve, South Carolina Infantry. This unit was organized in
Williamsburg County in 1862 and assigned to Fort Finger on Pee Dee
River. Later the company was ordered to Georgetown as part of the
coastal defense of S.C. The unit was commanded by Capt. Samuel Davis
McGill and was disbanded in Feb. 1863 at Kingstree, SC.
He also served in the 15th Regiment. This was formed as a counter to
President Lincoln's call for 300,000 more federal troops to pu...(see
Sara Ann 's letter).
Lambert CrossRoads (Lambert,SC) name later changed to Hemingway, SC
Marion County, SC web page by Victoria Proctor: "1996-97 last updated
6/6/1997. During the Civil War a B. F. Lambert was a private in Co. L,
10th Regiment Infantry and was listed as discharged."
