The Hemet News*Wednesday, Dec, 19, 1973, pg 14 c 4-5-6 Funeral services
will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Harford Funeral Home, Hemet, for
Clark Newton
Parker, 89, long time valley resident, who died Monday at his Mission
Heights
home. E. Keith Froehlich will officiate. Burial will be in San Jacinto
Valley Cemetery. Mr. Parker was born November 21, 1884 in Madisonville,
Kentucky. He had lived in this area and the state for 54 years, and had
been a land developer for 47 years.
Prior to moving to the Mission Canyon and Mission Heights area, south of
Hemet, many years ago, he operated a garage in San Jacinto and served for
a time as mayor of that city. He was also a charter member of the San
Jacinto Lions Club.
Mr. Parker was known for the various types of trees he grew on Mission
Heights,
which he always said was almost frost-free. He also planted other types
of
trees and shrubs as a conservation measure. He was also noted for the
colorful
miniatures of buildings he constructed of small rocks around the various
homes
he built on Mission Heights.

More recently, he had taken an interest in organic gardening, writing a
small
book on the subject. He also delivered a number of talks on organic
gardening
over the local radio station.

Because of his interest in growing things, it was natural that Mr. Parker
should take an interest in the weather. For many years he maintained a
record
of the rainfall on Mission Heights, phoning his rainfall figures to The
Hemet News after each storm.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Fox of Hemet and Charles Parker of
Redlands;
two daughters, Mrs. Glenn Froehlich of Idyllwild and Mrs. Gertrude Payton
of
Everett, Washington; 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Comment: The name Mrs. Gertrude Payton should be spelled Peyton. Mr .
Parker was born in the country of Wanamaker now known as Madisonville.
