Notes for Irvin Lewis KEEFFE
IRVING LEWIS KEEFE
Irving Lewis Keefe, CSA, served in the Civil War and was captured in
Virginia during a battle. He died June 8, 1865 in a POW camp on Long
Island Sound, NY (Hart's Island) and is buried in Cypress Hills Memorial
National Cemetery, NY, Grave #2966. The CSA changed his name to Ervin H.
Keefe on the records. I do not believe that he could read and write
which would have caused such an error. I have copies of his pay records
and death in the Northern Prison after the end of the War. He was
apparently too ill to be released. A cousin found the battle in which he
was captured and I found the information on the prison and his death.
