Notes for Patrick Alexander THOMPSON

PATRICK "Pat" ALEXANDER THOMPSON

The Thompsons were Irish in origin. They moved from Indiantown to
Prospect, where they were joined by the Eaddys, Hannas, Stones, Carters,
and others. In 1924, a group of nine men and women formed a new
congregation in the Midway Community. This was the Midway Baptist Church
which was chartered in 1925. The church was built on two acres of land
given by Patrick A. Thompson and C. C. Thompson who were two of the nine
charter members. At 24 years of age, Patrick Thompson assumed the
leading role in establishing and maintaining the church. He taught the
Men's Bible Class for 50 years, in addition to serving the church in
almost every capacity.

Pat Thompson was a successful farmer and business man. He was a director
of the Anderson State Bank and also had financial interest in the tobacco
market in Hemingway, SC.
