Notes for Samuel Joseph HASELDEN, JR
SAM JOE HASELDEN
by
Virginia Dianne Chinnes
He was the 12th mayor of Hemingway, SC. On his tombstone is inscribed,
"May your sleep be as sweet as our memories of you".
After college, I returned to Hemingway and was working in a local bank.
I used to see Mr. Buck in the bank and also he ate often in my Father's
restaurant. This was in the late 60s up until the time of his death. He
stayed active, owned a business, also drove the latest automobile. I
remember even going shopping to pick out birthday and Christmas gifts for
him to give to his girl friend. He was tall well-dressed and had a good
personality. I can also remember when he talked about his wife (Katie
Harmon), he always said she was beautiful. As far as I know he never
remarried. He was popular well liked, and enjoyed life.
