Notes for John TIMMONS, SR

Captain John Timmons served in the American Revolution. He was of French
Huguenot descent and moved from Charleston to Prince Frederick's Parish
to raise a family of five sons and three daughters.

The census of 1790 finds John Timmons in Prince Frederick's Parish, with
a household including three males over 16, three males under 16, four
females, and six slaves. The descendants of Captain John Timmons settled
in Marion, Darlington, and nearby counties. (Census of 1790) In the
will of Moses Benton dated October 15, 1816, his "friends and brother
in-law, Simon and Isaac Timmons" are cited as executors. Moses Benton
names his children: Mary, Simon, Ann, and Sarah. James Myers, Moses
Benton, Jr, and John Coward served as appraisers. Samuel Timmons served
as executor of the will of Robert Benton, dated June 13, 1817. (History
of Williamsburg, by William W. Boddie, The State Company, Columbia, SC,
1923, pages 231, 233.)
