He was reported to be age 68 in 1850 census of Marion County.


WILL OF PHILIP BARTELL
Will Book 2, Page 143, Roll 105
Marion County, South Carolina

In the Name of God Amen:

I Philip Bartell of the District of Marion in the State of South
Carolina, being weak of body, but of sound mind and Memory, do make and
publish this my last Will and Testament, In manner and form following
That is to Say, First It is my will and desire that all my Just debts and
funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied, as soon as Conveniently Can
be, after my decease, Second, I give and bequath unto my Six Grand
Children, Namely, Reuben Ard, Eliza Ard, Rebecca Ard, Jackson Ard,
Elizabeth Ard and Martha Ard All that plantation and tract of Land Lying
and being on the west Side of the Big Swamp, Containing One hundred and
ninety two and three quarters Acres, to be equally divided between them
Share and Share alike. Third I give and devise unto my beloved Daughter
Frances Powell during her natural life all that Plantation and tract of
Land lying and being on the east side of Deep Creek Containing seventy
two Acres, And at her decease to be equally divided between her living
Children, Share and Share alike, Fourth, I give and bequath unto my
beloved Son William Bartell at the death of my beloved wife Frances
Bartele, All that Plantation and tract of Land Where on I now live,
Containing two hundred and Sixty One Acres, to be at his disposal in fee
Simple to him and his heirs for ever, I also give and devise unto my said
Son William Bartell, at the death of his Mother Francis Bartell, all my
house hold and Kitchen furniture to him, and to his use forever, Fifth,
It is my Will and desire After the death of my beloved Wife Frances
Bartell, That the rest and Residue of my Estate of what so ever Kind it
may Consest, be Sold and the Money arising from the Sale thereof, after
all my Just debts are paid, The Balance if any, to be equally divided,
between my beloved Sons Silvester Bartele & William Bartele, Francis
Powell Children and to my Six grand Children Reuben Ard Eliza Ard, Rebeca
Ard, Jackson Ard Elizabeth Ard and Martha Ard, (Francis Powells Children
to Constitute but one heir and only entitled to one Share, My Grand
Children the Ards Constitute but one heir, and only entitled to One
Share, Sixth and lastly, I hereby appoint my beloved wife Francis Bartell
and my beloved Son William Bartele executors of this my last Will and
Testament, In Witnefs whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this
8 day of May A. D. One thousand eight hundred and forty Seven, Signed
Sealed, published and declared, by the said Philip Bartell to be hs last
Wile and Testament.
