Notes for Thomas J. EADDY
Thomas J. Eaddy was a deputy surveyor, and a number of his plats are to
be found in the records of Williamsburg County Court House, Kingstree,
SC.
WILL OF THOMAS J. EADDY
He provided instructions for the provision of his young wife and each of
his five children. He was a practical and prudent man. He wrote, "My
administrator or other person appointed by the Court of Chancery of the
State to take charge, shall appropriate a sufficient sum for the support
and education of said children, whom I desire shall receive a thorough
and liberal education of said children (if they are capable of learning
the same) without an extravagant waste of the means herewith provided and
it is expressly instructed that my administrator with guardian in whom
the trust may be reposed, shall adopt such measures so that the
application the funds shall be made only for thorough instruction and the
necessary comfort and health of my said children."
In 1860, he demonstrated his support for Confederate Succession when he
named his fourth child, Southern States Rights. His will contains
evidence of his continued strong support for the Confederacy in 1862 when
the South appeared to be winning the Civil War. He wrote, "... this 4th
day of April A. D. 1862 and in the 2nd year of Southern Independence."
