Notes for Frank BAMBER, SR

He was reported to have been a doctor and to have migrated from England
to New Orleans, LA in the company of a Doctor Poret. It is believed this
was Dr. Isodore Poret who settled in Mansura, LA. Some accounts have
Frank Bamber, Sr. dying when he fell from a balcony in New Orleans.
Other accounts suggest it was Bridget Dolan, his wife, who fell when
adjusting the shutters, from the balcony and died. According to this
reort, Frank Bamber, Sr. had died earlier from unknown causes. This
event prompted the placing in an orphanage and later adoption of their
sons, James Bamber and Frank Bamber, Jr.

According to an 1860 Census of New Orleans the following was discovered:
Bridget (Dolan) Bamber 28 Ireland, James Bamber 6 Louisiana, Frank Bamber
5 Louisiana, and James Bamber 52 Ireland, living with a John Mason
(occupation cabman) and family.
