Notes for Anolia LABORDE

MEMORIES OF ANOLIA (LaBORDE) DUBROC
BY
MARIANNE GUARENA

I remember so many things about my Grandmaw Dubroc (Anolia
Laborde-Dobroc). We called her Big maw maw. I remember the farm, the
bedspreads, her white glass sugar dish in the shape of a chicken, and a
cow-shaped creamer. My grandmother has these items now. I remember her
killing some of her chickens for us to eat when we came to visit and
plucking them on the porch! (I lived in the city and was mortified). I
even have a scar on my ankle where my step dad placed me on the other
side of the fence with a ram across the street as a joke, but he charged
me so when my stepdad lifted me out, I got my ankle caught on the barbed
wire. So many memories! She used to have a red pump from the well we
used to have to clean ourselves off with when we got dirty before she'd
let us in the house. We also drank from it when we played outside.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
