Notes for Robert Jackson GRIFFITH, SR.

Sequoyah County Historical Society (AR 1976)
One of their earliest homes was the house where the Childers Stage
Station had just vacated south of town. They moved to Price's Chapel
Community soon after 1900, where "Uncle Jack", as he had come to be
known, had a combined store and post office. It was called the Flavius
Post Office, with Mr. Griffith serving as postmaster 1910, 1911 and 1912.
He continued with his store until 1923 when he retired.
Robert Jackson Griffith, Sr. was not old enough to serve in the Civil
War but drove a freight wagon hauling Union supplies from Ft. Smith to
Ft. Scott, KS. He was affiliated with the Sallisaw Indian Territory
Masonic Lodge #96.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
