Notes for Guillaume LEMOINE

Guillaume Lemoine was the launch commander of the Company of the Indies.
He was also known as Guillaume Lemoine dit "Le Normant". He came to
Louisiana in 1724 as captain of a small sloop. He was living on Royal
Street in New Orleans 1726/27 and sold this house and lot to Francois
Brunet. He arrived in Pointe Coupee about 1740 where he was a resident
until his death August 8, 1771. His occupation was planter from
1731-1771.

In 1744, Guillaume Lemoine hired an apprentice, Paul Moreau, who was to
learn shoemaking and farming. In return, Moreau was to teach Guillaume
how to read and write; but, Guillaume never learned.

***

The story of the family of Guillaume Lemoine and Marie Sanmerine (L'Este)
is of interest to students of genealogy, not only because of the many
sons of Jean Baptiste Lemoine, I. who spread the name throughout the
Parish. The descendants of the daughters of Guillaume Lemoine, Marie
Jeanne, Antoinette, and Francoise populated Avoyelles Post and Avoyelles
Parish in large numbers.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
