Notes for Jean Baptiste CARMOUCHE

Jean Baptiste Carmouche called Lorrain was a native of St. Laurent
Parish, Pont-a-Mousson, France. He was the first of his family in
Louisiana. He sailed from the port of Lorient, France aboard the vessel
"Gironde", bound for Louisiana on August 3, 1720. The Passenger list
shows that he was employed for the concession of M. De Chamount. His
occupation was given as "locksmith". His age was given as twenty-eight
years. This would place his birth at about 1692. Jean Baptiste
Carmouche was a native of L'Ayrana, Bishopric of Taille, France. His
real property included a "plantation outside the city", a house, and a
lot on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, LA.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
