Notes for John MOZINGO

John Mozingo and Ann Mozingo were land surveyors who moved from Virginia
in 1744. Sarah Mozingo evidently learned their trade, as she is listed
as a witness to land transactions in eastern NC. The only reason she
would have been a signatory on those documents is that she had something
to do with surveying. Perhaps James Creel, son of Sarah Mozingo, learned
how to acquire land through surveying to allow him to receive a grant of
1000 acres in Marion County, SC.

Sarah Mozingo's family can be traced back to 1641 in Gloucester Country,
VA. the Mozingos and Creels always seemed to live near each other in VA,
NC, and SC. In fact, Spot Mozingo was as State Senator for many years
representing Darlington County, near Florence and Marion Counties.
