Notes for William BURROWS

Patti Thompson recorded the following statement in an email message dated
July 19, 1999 to Joyce/Gary Payne: "I have a note that I had written
down that may help you. It has not been proven; but, could be a good
lead... There was a William Burrows, Esq. from Southwark, Great Britian
(12/19/1725-4/29/1781) who married Mary Ward of Charleston, SC. They had
one known son, John Burrows born abt. 1740. This could be your guy."

Joyce Payne responded in an email message dated July 24, 1999, "I have
checked out this Wm. Burrows, and have found a lot of info on him and
Mary Ward Burrows. I have William's will that names their children,
Mary, William, and Sarah; but, there is no mention of a son named John.
I also have a short history on him and that lists a son named John. this
is what drives people crazy."

*****

William Ward Burrows was commissioned the first Commandant of the U. S.
Marine Corps and his son, Lt. William Burrows was killed commanding the
Brig/Schooner Enterprise off Portland while winning the battle against
the HMS Boxer.
