Notes for Ruth Juliette BISHOP

Ruth Juliette Bishop reared six children and participated in the family
business of Edward H. Hanna Seedsman of Gifford, SC. She attended Agnes
Scott College and first began teaching in the Nixville Community in
Hampton County, SC. She began a Bible study group on Sunday afternoons.
These meetings were the beginnings of the Nixville Baptist Church. Every
year, she was invited to the reunion of this Church as an honored guest.
She taught Sunday School at the Lawtonville Baptist Church, Estill, SC
until her 70th year. She was respected and loved by her family as well
as the members of the small community of Gifford, SC. She was active in
the Garden Club and was a Flower Show Judge. After the death of her
husband which occurred in her fifties, she became re-certified and
taught approximately 20 more years.
