Notes for Austin STONE, I


Austin Stone I. was born July 19, 1748 in Craven County and died 1818.
He served in Marion's Brigade. See: (Stub indent no. 3, Book 1) for
supplies and service. He was a large landowner and a strong moral and
religious influence in the Lynches Creek community. He was among the
Commissioners appointed March 27, 1786, for opening the navigation of
Lynches and Black Creek (History of the Old Cheraws, p. 446).


AUSTIN STONE'S WILL
Will Book 1, Page 118
Marion County

In the name of God Amen this Sixth day of April one thousand Eight
hundred and Eighteen. I Austin Stone senior of Marion District South
Carolina being in perfect mind and memory knowing that it is appointed
for man once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in
manner following/viz, first of all I give my soul into the hands of
Almighty God that gave it and my body to the ground to be buried in a
Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and my
worldly estate I give and dispose of in manner following/viz, I give and
bequeath to my son Philip Stone and Daughter Rachel Eaddy their heirs and
assigns forever two hundred and sixty six acres to be divided equally
between them. This land is part of a tract of Eight hundred acres in
Williamsburg district in the forks of Lynches lake and Lynches Creek. I
Give and bequeath to my son Austin Stone a certain tract of one hundred
acres on lynches Creek joining the land that I now live on I lend unto my
beloved wife Elizabeth the plantation and tract of land I now live on
containing four hundred and fifty acres with all my personal estate
during her widowhood or natural life but at her death if she should marry
again the said tract of four hundred acres to be Equally divided between
my son Samuel E. Stone given him first choice, Henry Stone second.
Francis Bartell and Lydda Hanna and the whole of my personal property
that I lend to my wife be sold the money collected a Equal division made
between my Ten living children, or their heirs, if dead, of the share
that their father or mother would have... (illegible) if living and my
grandson Austin Stone Prosser have an equal part with the said ten
children/viz Dottson Stone Martha Eaddy Austin Stone Phillip Stone
Samuel E. Stone Henry Stone Francis Bartell Lydda Hanna Rachel Eaddy
Senea Stone and my wife Elizabeth if she marrys... tract of land in
Marion/viz one on lynches creek William Smiths and remaining tract of
Eight hundred and thirty three acres being part of a tract conveyed from
William Stone to me the said Austin Stone be sold and Equal division be
made between my aforesaid children when convenient after death I make and
ordain constitute and appoint my son-in-law Henry Eaddy and my son
Dottson Stone my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and
testament disannulling and Revoking all other wills by me made In witness
hereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal the day and year above
written.
