Notes for Hardy Harbert CHINNERS

Research of Marion County land Records shows that S.M.A.C. (Sarah Martha
Ann Chinnes) was living with her father, Hardy Harbert Chinnes (H.H.C.)
and her brother, Joseph Benjamin Chinnes (J.B.C.) on her father's
plantation that contained 1,734 acres. The purchase of this land
occurred in three transactions. the first being in 1800 as a land grant
to Hardy H. Chinners. This land is that tract located in the Britton's
Neck area of Marion County, and is the same general area that Benjamin
G.F. Lambert is believed to have been living when he married S.M.A.C. The
second purchase was for 735 acres in 1817. Both of these tracts of land
are located in upper Marion County near the city of Marion, SC. A more
detailed description of this land is located in the land records section.

The first official state record that gives reference to B.G.F. Lambert is
a land deed between B.G.F. Lambert and Joseph Benjamin Chinnes in 1848
and recorded in Marion county in 1854. This deed gives statement that
B.G.F Lambert sold to S.M.A. Chinnes's brother, a tract of land
containing 50 acres that was deeded to S.M.A.C. by David Gibson of Marion
County. This land was part of the original plantation that was owned by
Hardy H. Chinnes and was seized by right of a writ served by the Sheriff
of Marion County. the Chinnes' land was sold at public auction to David
Gibson, being the highest bidder, on or about 1830.

It is unclear as to the reason for the seizure and sale of Chinnes land
in 1830, but the purchase by David Gibson and his subsequent deeding of
one fifty acres tract of land each to S. M. .A. C. and Joseph Benjamin
Chinnes indicates a close family friendship (or perhaps they were
related) A more detailed description is recorded in the land records
section.
