Notes for Barney LaRue HARMON, SR

ATLANTIC SEA BREEZES
by
Vanik S. Eaddy

Barney Leroy Harmon, Sr. was a successful businessman in Hemingway, SC.
He retired and moved his family to Myrtle Beach, SC. They owned a
cottage three blocks from the strand, which was named "Eva Dell" after
their daughter of the same name. He subsequently purchased property on
the beach front and built a home and vacation apartment house named
"Harmony House". This business became successful and was later operated
by Warren Chandler and his wife Sylvia Hewitt.

The family of Dewey P. Eaddy from Indiantown, SC frequently visited the
Harmon family and the adults enjoyed saltwater fishing from the pier.
The children, in chronological age, included Leland J. Eaddy, Vanik S.
Eaddy, Wayne Jackson Harmon, Eva Dell Harmon, and Barney LaRue Harmon,
Jr. The children enjoyed swimming, crabbing and wading at the "Swash",
bicycling, and engaging in activities to earn money. In the late summer
and early fall (after Labor Day Holiday), the children would find fishing
tackle lost by fishermen on the reef near the pier. This was sold to
provide for treats and entertainment. Another profitable enterprise was
collection of soft drink bottles which could be redeemed for two cents
each. We were all endeared to this family for their hospitality.

Wayne Jackson Harmon spent some vacation time at Indiantown with the
Eaddy family where he assisted in tobacco harvest and performed other
chores. All that hard work produced a man-sized appetite for growing
boys who enjoyed excellent home cooked meals prepared for them by my
mother, Effie Eloise (Rogers) Eaddy.

Notes: The Thomas Baxley family notes reveal his name to be Barney LaRue
Harmon (b. 1905 d. 1984). This would cause his name to become Barney
LaRue Harmon, Sr.
