Notes for William ASKINS, SR


Williams Askins, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War as a Corporal in
Captain William Vance's Company, 12th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col.
James Wood. Askins enlisted May 9, 1777, for three years and was
transferred in 1779 to Captain Robert Gamble's company of Light Infantry
in the same regiment. His name last appeared on the company payroll
November, 1779 (Certified Record of Service, Virginia State Library).
