Notes for James Richard HANNA

James Richard Hanna volunteered for duty on August 13, 1861 in the Civil
War. He died January 27, 1862, on South Island, having been a Private in
Co. I. Tenth (Manigault's) Regiment. His three brothers also joined the
CSA.

His widow was the former Elliott Bartell. According to family
tradition, she drove alone a horse and wagon to Georgetown to retrieve
her husband's body for burial. She was also reported to have maintained
a daily diary; but, no evidence of this has ever been found.
