Notes for Lawrence Edward CREEL, II

Lawrence Edward Creel, II. was a teacher, principal, and superintendent
of Hemingway Area Schools.

Lawrence (Larry) Edward Creel, II. was a veteran of WWII. While
stationed in the South Pacific, he received a commendation letter for
construction of a ration dump which impressed his commanding officer.
Here are the contents of that letter of commendation.

HEADQUARTERS PROVISIONAL SERVICE COMMAND
APO 709

SUBJECT: Commendation. May 18, 1943.

TO : 2nd Lt. Lawrence E. Creel, 0-390506, 2nd Bn., 24th
Infantry (Det).

1. During April 1943, it was necessary, due to continued enemy bombing,
to construct in the jungles a ration dump large enough to accommodate 2
to 3 million rations. 2nd Lt. Creel was given this duty and without
further ado started on his task. At least one company of the 24th was
assigned to Lt. Creel to construct this dump. After 3 weeks of constant,
careful and diligent work 2nd Lt. Creel completed the dump which was a
model of its kind. 2nd Lt. Creel demonstrated, while construction was
going on, intelligent planning, leadership, and good sound practical
sense.

2. I am pleased to write this in behalf of Lt. Creel.

JOSEPH P. CLELAND
Colonel, Infantry
Commanding
