Notes for Benjamin Franklin EADY

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN EADY (EADDY)

After the death of Mary Elizabeth Gaskins on April 13, 1871, a short time
after the second child was born, Benjamin Franklin Eaddy took his son,
Sylvester Liston Eaddy with him to Mississippi, where he settled at
Pulaski, married Mary Ellen Wicker, and reared a family. Although he
returned to SC many times, and wanted to take his daughter, Mary
Elizabeth Aidawell Thursey Rebecca Eaddy with him to Mississippi, she had
become attached to her Gaskins grandparents and they to her, so she
became a part of the Gaskins family. He also was known as Dock Eaddy to
his friends. Benjamin Franklin Eady and his son Sylvester Liston Eady
were reported to have walked the railroad track from South Carolina to
Mississippi.

According to Mrs. Justin M. Robinson, Jr. of Dalton, GA, Benjamin
Franklin Eaddy changed his name to Eady upon moving to Mississippi as did
his son, Sylvester Liston Eaddy. For reasons unknown, the four daughters
of Benjamin Franklin Eady and Mary Ellen Wicker elected to retain the
Eaddy version of their surname. The seven male offspring of this family
all used the Eady surname.
